Title: how much do you spend on your costume?
Description: should you really spend much money on co
itachi_san - November 24, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
in my itachi costume i only spent about 800 pesos because my girlfriend did the sawing.... and i still have cloth extra to make her a costume.... we didn't spend anything on wigs because we chose characters with black hair... i dont know about you guys?
ArcadeDoll - November 24, 2005 10:41 AM (GMT)
Funny you should ask. In my first cosplay I spent more than the maximum rate you polled and yet I didnt get even the least award. On my second and latest cosplay, it is actually lower than the minimum poll ( in fact close to none! because the materials are already available at home ) and that's when I got a high award. Ain't life funny? XD
Chibi-kun - November 24, 2005 08:25 PM (GMT)
in dollar terms I can spend from $50-$300 (with or without the contacts)
the most expensive costume I have right now would be the Uchihas and Hinata's kasing ang mahal mahal ng contacts! :o
and my planned costume for Master Chief of Halo which will be made out of fiber glass
Polence - November 25, 2005 01:08 AM (GMT)
ok.... the most I have spent is 7k ^_^;
and.... I think cosplayers must spend as low as they can... and let their creativity and resourcefulness... that way we may spend less^_^
I know there are people out there that can afford to spend a certain high amount of money... but hey... what ever makes you happy^_^
wantan - November 25, 2005 01:17 AM (GMT)

Accel - November 25, 2005 02:51 AM (GMT)
i think above 1.5k din ata, tama ba wantan?
Geron Kizan - November 26, 2005 01:52 AM (GMT)
Well in American dollars (since I am an American *avoids bullets*) I would say my Chouji cosplay cost me.....around 35 - 55 dollars.
My RE4 merchant cosplay cost me around 125 dollars....most of it was from the Leather Trenchcoat
And my upcoming Teuchi cosplay will be around 35 bucks.
And my upcoming TJ Chouji cosplay....I'd say around 150 bucks.
Polence - November 26, 2005 02:04 AM (GMT)
I wish you have a relative here.... materials and labor costs cheaper here.^_^; Maybe you can get them to help you out with your costumes!XD
Note: Naruto headbands like that here only costs $2 ^_^;;;

The family looks weirdly on my cosplaying lifestyle.
My excuse for my cosplay is "It's for my Theatre Minor studies"
Polence - November 26, 2005 02:16 AM (GMT)
lol... understandable... :P
Even my family... many more other cosplayers here share the same situation.^_^;
My family thought that it was just a waste of money.... they accepted this weird hobby of mine, when I started winning and appearing in TV and magazines. :P
Chibi-kun - November 26, 2005 02:26 AM (GMT)
oi! i'm not the only american cosplay here ^_^ pero ano nga...i think im more pinoy than american.
I plan on cosplaying as Char and Gihren Zabi and the current cost of the materials I'm estimating is atleast $300+ (including props and what not) mahal talaga mag cosplay
my family looks at my cosplay habbit as obsessive yet nice. Its healthier than doing drugs or playing games all day :P they just dont like how much I spend on my hobbies. (Anime, games and cosplay can be expensive <_< not including convention trips)

*nods... nods*
hehe... I agree... that's is a better alternative for a hobby, rather than doing drugs or drinking. It promotes creativity and resourcefulness.... every cosplay brings out a great feeling of accomplishment in each costume we do.^_^
I'm lucky I live in Metro Manila... because here, most conventions are done here. So... the cosplayers in the Philippines (the ones living in MM GMA) just have to commute to the venue, and go home by the end of the day.^_^;; For the most part... spending $30 for a costume is already expensive *as I have said before, labor and materials cost cheap here*
I imagine, when the time comes that I go there, that I will bid my beloved hobby goodbye. T-T
Chibi-kun - November 26, 2005 02:45 AM (GMT)
you really dont have to say good bye to your hobby. Its all about picking the right material and stores to purchase your items needed for your costume. atleast now i make my own costumes so that should save me some money and the reason I spend too much is because I'm a crazy perfectionist ^_^
and I commute alot to conventions and I tend to rest hotels there to stay for the weekend. I try to sleep at my cousins house whereever the convention is being held so I save money on hotel expenses and spend alittle more on gas.
theres alot of trains and buses you can take to go to conventions, making friends as well and carpooling to cons can save you alot of money. Be smart and adapt and you can never say good bye to your love for cosplaying
Polence - November 26, 2005 02:49 AM (GMT)
Yeah... *goes puppy dog eyes and all teary* You bring me hope!
I will be living all the way to the nuclear base of Minot, ND. Airfare is going to cost me alot, and sadly, I don't have relatives living near any cosplay sites.T-T I just hope I can find a way to do it there.... maybe I'll find a way once I get there. XDXDXD Thank you so much!

North Dakota, huh?
You can always come to Iowa or Illinois...there's a number of Filipino cosplayers near Chicago....or you can come here to Iowa to meet the cosplayers......all ten of them and their one Filipino....me.
Davenport is a bit of a nexus of the midwest cosplay ring.
You got Anime Central (the third/fourth largest convention in America), Reactor (a small anime convention), Anime Iowa, and Ohayocon in Columbus, Ohio.
I would have included Kunicon in St. Louis, Missouri, but it's cancelled this year...so sad too.
Chibi-kun - November 26, 2005 02:57 AM (GMT)
Minot, ND? I dont think I've heard of where that is.
But they hold anime conventions EVERYWHERE ^_^ anime-con has a schedule of all the conventions being held anywhere in the state as well as almost out of state :P
They usually have shuttles as well that takes you from the airport to the convention site, or yes. Drive or carpool with friends.
going to convention forums and cosplay forums are always good to meet new friends.
Usually if you want to go to the bigger cons, ie: Anime Expo, Otakon, Fanime and etc. you usually have to take a plane ride. but smaller cons are always fun :D
so check it out. dapat you shouldnt loose hope
Polence - November 26, 2005 03:02 AM (GMT)
Thank you for that info!!! *glomps*
It's just that my husband's contract in the military wouldn't expire until after 2 years. I'll try to see if I can get him, to let us live in those areas after his service.^_^
Geron Kizan - November 26, 2005 03:05 AM (GMT)
Just remember...in America it's common to see guys wearing female-character cosplay *cough cough Man-Faye cough cough*
Polence - November 26, 2005 03:14 AM (GMT)
LMAO
I do admire that man's confidence!!! Anyway... I don't think I'll make my husband a Faye costume... but I am trying to get him to dress up a FF8 Diablos! :D

Yet another reason to love the Philippines. Around here, men are men... mostly. :rolleyes:
Chibi-kun - November 26, 2005 06:19 AM (GMT)
man faye is really nice and unless you go to Anime Expo then theres a slim chance that you'll be meeting him anytime soon :lol:
best area for great access to conventions is in california. From San Jose you can drive down to Anahaime/Long Beach and San Diego or up to LA and San Francisco for Anime Expo, PMX, Comic Con, Anime LA, Fanime and more.
saka, maraming mga jrock/jpop concerts sa San Fran. area but the thing you need to consider as well is how much the houses there are there. Mahal dito sa San Diego pero maraming mga military service men dito kasi nandito ang base. And its warm here too! :P
Polence - November 26, 2005 10:17 AM (GMT)
yeah..-_- I guess... I would just have to do with that baseT-T... until we move near his family's house in WA
mamoru - November 27, 2005 02:06 AM (GMT)
how much it cost!? actually ala pa kong naga2wa pero kung magkataon na gumawa ako ng costume sana ndi ubaot ng 2k or more!? :)
chidori - November 27, 2005 02:05 PM (GMT)
@mamoru
It depends on your costume ^^ and if your diligent enough to search the cheapest materials by yourself (in Divisoria Mall) ...... hehe.. nothing just want to comment?
Anyways on my side, my costume including the accesories and staff has a so-so price and the result's satisfactory.. :P (did i use the right term?)
But of course, having a costume made has a lot of ways. you can make it cheaper in a lot of ways just as long as you have patient to do the work. ^^ (Hope I make sense? ^_~)
@Polence - I never thought your that shiva who cosplyed at c3con... Is it really you? hmm! I saw the banner w/ your name "Jerry Polence as Shiva" .. hey, congratz!!!!! ^_^

Wow. So cosplay seems to me really cheap in the Philippines =-=
I paid arround 50 Euros for my Neji Hyuuga costume plus 15Euro for the Naruto headbands. ;_;
Cosplay in germany is too expensive.
I shall go shopping in Manila, when I get there in my christmasholidays...
@Polence
Besides, can you please tell me, where you buy your stuff in Manila? It would be nice, if you can tell me, because I just don't no, where I should go in Manila and I'm not sure, if my cousin knows, where to go. And it would be also nice to know, where you geht Naruto headbandsfor 2 Dollar. (I can't believe ist taht is so cheap there ;_;)
Chibi-kun - December 5, 2005 11:52 PM (GMT)
i actually made a Hyuuga Neji shirt for $30.
you can get abunch of naruto headband on ebay for super cheap mulla :lol:
but their not exactly official ones.
Mike - December 6, 2005 01:57 AM (GMT)

Welcome to Pinoy Cosplay, Sharline! :)
